When faced with removing a 100-year-old black willow from our backyard, the mere notion was not easy to digest. Although necessary to avoid impending disaster, it is never easy to contemplate destroying what took a century for nature to create.
Not wanting to send this tree into an afterlife-unknown, we decided to embark on journey to help celebrate it's life work. Typically willows are used for shipping crates and its branches are often bent to create rustic-looking chairs. Wanting a more contemporary keep-sake we asked a skilled wood-turner, Allan LePoidvin, to turn its burls into decorative bowls to help commemorate this whimsical childhood tree.
When approached by the neighbour to take this venture one-step further we explored turning slabs into highly sought-after harvest tables. The experience did not disappoint.
Implementing this into our designs has conjured endless opportunities for a curated look that is both current and timeless. Stay tuned!
